Pavlova, sweet treat quilt block made with berries.

Hi, and welcome to Sew Blue Thread. It is yet another year, and I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to see 2021 fall away just like that.  It’s been a trying year, not only for me personally, but for family, friends, neighbors, state, country, and THE WORLD.  Agree!  Please say ‘yes’.

Aaah, what does 2022 mean for you?  For Sew Blue Thread, in 2022, there are so many new patterns coming.

A new year always brings new beginnings, and in January, in Australia, it cannot go without mentioning ‘Australia Day’ on the 26th.  It’s the official national day and on this day, ceremonies welcome new citizens or honor people who have done a great service for the country. On the fun side are BBQs, contests, parades, performances, fireworks, and more.

So this year, I wanted to show off a little fun and delicious dessert, often found in homes and parties at this time of year.  It starts with the name, Anna Pavlova; but who is she?

Anna Pavlova, born Anna Matveyevna Pavlova debuted in 1899 as a ballerina.  She attended the Imperial Russian Ballet School,  and she quickly became a prima ballerina.  During the late 19th and early 20th centuries,  Anna, had a breakthrough performance being The Dying Swan in 1905, which became her signature role.

Anna Pavlova toured New Zealand and Australia in the 1920s.  From that tour, a dessert was named in her honor.   Australians and New Zealanders have long argued over who invented the pavlova, ….a refreshing sweet dessert on an often hot and sticky day.

Here we have the humble pavlova, made with Summer berries and fresh cream.  Click on the link, to find the recipe, :>here<:  Pavlovas come in all variety of toppings with fresh cream added, including traditional in-season fruit, peach & raspberry, stone fruit & honey.

So on the next ‘hot and sticky day’, remember the Pavlova and a new quilt block.

The Berry Pavlova block measures 12.5″x 8.5″, and is easy to stitch together.  The patterns allows for a number of Pavlova dessert toppings, and can be used as a stash buster quilt block.

So until next time,

Have fun sewing.
