Sky Float quilt block – Sky Series Quilt Along

Hi, and welcome to Sew Blue Thread.  Last week we started making the second in the 3 part Sky Series quilt-along.  Today, I have the third of 3 quilt blocks in the exciting Sky Series Quilt-Along.  The block we’re making today, is the ‘Sky Float’ quilt block which measures 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2 “. It’s the big balloon on the right side pic.

Week 1                                                        Week 2                                                Week 3

First, cut out all fabric pieces, and lay on the board to check where all the pieces go.

There is a special step included into the pattern, on

how to create a length of 6 1/2″ fabric piece from a 5″ fabric square.

Lay the fabric square onto the corner of the fabric rectangle

and stitch on the diagonal line as mentioned in the pattern.

Trim the fabric square and press.

Stitch the fabric square to the opposite corner of the rectangle fabric.

Stitch the 4 corners and trim 1/4 ” seam. Press.

Stitch the Balloon basket unit together.  Press.

So here is the finished ‘Sky Float’ quilt block

to add to the To the Sky quilt block, and the Sky High quilt block.

Next week, we will look at how to stitch the 3 blocks together to complete the ‘Sky Series’ Mini quilt.

So until then,

Have fun sewing.

Marsha.
